So, take a notepad, pen (or make notes on your smartphone) and delve into it.

How to sterilize tweezers and eyebrow tools?

The question often arises among brow artists as to whether they should sterilize brow tweezers, since, unlike a manicure, brow correction seems to be a simple and non-traumatic procedure.

According to state sanitary norms and rules: if an instrument can damage the skin and come into contact with biological materials and liquids (skin, hair, blood, etc.), it must be disinfected and sterilized!

In order to make the eyebrow correction procedure safe according to sanitary standards, your tools must go through several stages of cleaning:

  • Disinfection;
  • Cleaning before sterilization;
  • Sterilization (thermal or chemical/cold sterilization);
  • Proper storage of sterile instruments.

Yes, disinfection and sterilization are completely different concepts, despite the same goal - the processing of instruments.

Disinfection is the basic treatment of an instrument from pathogenic microorganisms, it does not make the instrument sterile, it only cleans it from the most common viruses.
Only complete sterilization destroys all possible bacteria, viruses and microorganisms, and makes your tool 100% safe.

Eyebrow tweezers disinfection

The first stage of instrument processing is disinfection. It is performed immediately after working with the tool. All used instruments are placed in a box with a special disinfectant solution. It is important that it is impossible to wash and clean tweezers and other tools before this, so as not to spread contamination over a larger area.

Such disinfectants may be ready-made or in the form of concentrates, which must first be diluted with water in a certain proportion.

Among the ready-made products for quick disinfection:

  • AHD 2000 Express,
  • InLei F360 Ready liquid disinfectant,
  • Biolong universal.

Working with such compositions may differ: soaking the tool in the composition or spraying the product until the tool is wet; by time for 10-15 seconds or up to 1 minute. We recommend following the instructions on the jar.

Concentrates for disinfection:

  • Surfanios lemon fresh;
  • Blanidas Active Enzyme;
  • Bacillol.

These preparations for disinfection must be diluted with water according to the proportions (as a rule, a table with the concentration of the working solution is indicated on each agent). For quick disinfection, a 0.5% solution is most often made. Eyebrow tweezers and other tools are soaked in the solution for 15-60 seconds (follow the instructions on the package).

Cleaning tweezers and instruments before sterilization

After a quick disinfection, the tweezers must go through a cleaning step before sterilization. Rinse tweezers and tools well under running water (1-3 minutes is enough) and remove all kinds of dirt from them. This stage has another sacred meaning - to clean the tweezers from aggressive compounds that can damage the coating of the tweezers if they are not washed off thoroughly.

Sterilization of tweezers and brow tools

The most important and final stage is the sterilization of tweezers and instruments.
Here we will get acquainted with several terms: thermal sterilization and chemical (cold) sterilization. Each is good in its own way.

For thermal sterilization, units such as a dry heat cabinet (dry heat) or an autoclave are used. They differ in the principles of action. Processing in dry heat occurs due to high temperatures, and in an autoclave - due to steam and low pressure.

The main thing to remember is that before thermal sterilization, the instrument must be dried and sealed in a kraft bag.

Chemical sterilization, also known as cold sterilization, is the treatment of instruments in a special chemical composition. For this, concentrates are used. Which? Bonus - all the same concentrates as for quick disinfection, only in a different concentration of the solution. For sterilization, solutions of 2.5% - 5% are used.

Recall: Surfanios lemon fresh, Blanidas Active Enzyme and Bacillol.

Sulfanios lemon fresh contains anti-corrosion additives - you can be absolutely calm, it will definitely not damage the coating of the tweezers. Blanidas and Bacillol do not have such additives, but you will still wash the instrument after chemical sterilization. So the main thing is not to forget the tweezers in the solution for a long time.

The exposure time of the tweezers in the solution is usually indicated on the packaging and depends on the concentration of the composition. Average time: 15 minutes with a 5% solution and 30 minutes with a 2.5% solution.
Such solutions are reusable, according to the recommendations of the manufacturers, they can be used up to 14 days after which the solution should be prepared again.

Be sure to rinse the tweezers after chemical sterilization!

An important step after sterilization is the storage of a sterile instrument. The ideal option is under a special UV lamp in a kraft bag. The basic storage method is in a sealed craft bag that you can open in front of a client. Plus in karma and a bonus to the client's impressions of you.

Which sterilization method to choose for an eyebrow artist?

Now about the pros and cons of one or another method of sterilizing tweezers.
The main thing is that they sterilize equally carefully!

For thermal sterilization, it is necessary to buy very expensive equipment (prices for dry heat start from 1000 UAH and more, an autoclave is even more expensive), which can be a significant disadvantage for a beginner eyebrow artist.
Also, if your tweezers are colored, exposure to high temperatures can adversely affect the appearance of the tweezers.
Experienced craftsmen also say that with frequent regular sterilization in dry heat, tools become dull faster and they need to be sharpened more often.
Due to the high temperature processing, you need more time to process the tweezers and to cool them down. Therefore, it is necessary to have a second set of tweezers and tools, especially for masters with a dense record.

Having additional sets of tools is a sign of good taste for any master and his responsible attitude to the safety of the procedure and the thoroughness of sterilization.

Therefore, most eyebrow artist prefer chemical cold sterilization. It is faster, easier and does not require the purchase of special equipment. In addition, you can buy one disinfectant and sterilizer and make solutions with different concentrations. To start working with an eyebrow, this is an ideal option.

Eyebrow Tweezer Sterilization Recommendations

  • Have several sets of tweezers to work with. One set is used, the second is sterilized at this time and vice versa. This is especially true for masters with a dense record.
  • All of your tweezers and instruments should go through the three steps of sterilization and be properly stored.
  • Proper sterilization looks like this: quick disinfection in a special composition > cleaning before sterilization > hot or chemical sterilization > storing tweezers in a closed kraft bag or UV lamp.
  • Chemical cold sterilization is a more convenient, faster and more economical way to sterilize eyebrows.
  • Don't leave your tool in a chemical solution for too long - have pity on it. In this situation, longer does not equal more effective. From the fact that you soak the tweezers for a day, it will not become sterile, but it will become unsuitable for work.
  • Do not neglect the rules of disinfection and sterilization - this is a guarantee of the safety of you and your client.
  • When buying disinfectants, be sure to read the instructions and recommendations for use. Not only read, but observe!
  • Do not forget that in addition to tweezers and tools, it is imperative to disinfect hands and work surfaces before working with clients.
